DC Information

Common breeding bird and migrant, found from March to October in dense stands of trees near marshes. Rare in winter. Immatures are heavily streaked. Sexes are similar.

Specimen Information

There are two Black-cowned Night Herons in this case.  One is a juvenile, slightly below and to the left of the Snowy Egret (not seen here).  An adult in breeding plumage (note the bright green feathers around the eye) is just below and to the right of the Snowy Egret and is shown above.
